Rahul Gandhi Demands Resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan Over NEET Leaks
Rahul Gandhi criticises the Indian government following NEET paper leak allegations, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Indian politician Rahul Gandhi has intensified criticism of the central government in light of recent allegations regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak. Speaking at a public rally, Gandhi stated, "We will not stop until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns," referring to the Education Minister, whose office is at the centre of scrutiny over the alleged examination irregularities.

The controversy arose after claims surfaced that specific questions from the NEET-UG 2026 exam, conducted in May, were available before the official test date. These allegations led to a significant public outcry, with many aspiring medical students expressing frustration regarding the integrity of the examination process.

While responding to the allegations, the National Testing Agency (NTA) sought to clarify the situation. Abhishek Singh, the NTA Chief, informed a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education that "no paper leak took place; only certain questions came out" prior to the examination. This statement was made during a recent committee meeting where the NTA addressed concerns raised by lawmakers.

Singh explained that investigations into the irregularities did uncover some malpractices, prompting the cancellation of the initial exam on May 3, 2026. Subsequent re-examination is scheduled for June 21, 2026, with the NTA stating that registered candidates will not need to reapply or pay additional fees.

In conjunction with these events, law enforcement agencies have initiated investigations into the matter. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has already arrested several individuals involved in what they describe as a broader scheme of examination-related malpractice. These arrests reportedly include intermediaries, educators, and examination centre personnel accused of facilitating the unethical practices.

In light of the public's concerns, the NTA has committed to implementing stricter security measures and monitoring systems in the upcoming re-examination to restore confidence amongst candidates and ensure a fair testing environment.

As the situation continues to unfold, Rahul Gandhi and other opposition members are pushing for further accountability from the government, insisting that immediate and effective actions are necessary to uphold the integrity of educational assessments in India.
