Abhijeet Dipke of Cockroach Janata Party Fears Arrest Upon Return
Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the satirical Cockroach Janata Party, predicts arrest upon landing in Delhi as he discusses the party's rapid rise.

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a political outfit that began as a parody, has gained significant traction among the Indian public, especially on social media. The movement emerged following comments made by Chief Justice Surya Kant, leading to a surge in followers and support from various opposition figures.

Founded by Abhijeet Dipke, a political communication strategist currently based in the United States, the CJP has seen its Instagram following climb to over 12 million, surpassing the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) 8.7 million. This quick rise reflects the satirical party's unique approach to political discourse in India, focusing on the perception of citizens and governance.

In a recent interview with The Red Mike, Dipke expressed concern about potential legal repercussions upon his return to India, stating, "I feel that as soon as I land at Delhi airport, a convoy of Delhi Police will take me to Tihar Jail." His remarks underscore the tense climate in which new political movements operate.

The CJP, while rooted in satire, has attracted endorsements from prominent opposition leaders, including Mahua Moitra, Kirti Azad, and Akhilesh Yadav. Dipke mentioned that while he is surprised by the popularity on social media, he remains focused on the core issues facing Indian citizens: "I am not happy that we have more followers. What will happen with it? The issues remain the same."

Earlier in the day, the CJP's X account was withheld in India due to a 'legal demand,' further illustrating the challenges faced by emerging political voices. Dipke shared a screenshot of the notification, noting the situation was anticipated.

Dipke, a 30-year-old political strategist, previously earned his undergraduate degree in journalism in Pune before graduating from Boston University with a focus on Public Relations. His prior work in digital political messaging and online campaign strategy has paved the way for the CJP's emergence amid India's evolving political landscape. The outfit's ability to rally support from a diverse array of comedians, influencers, and public figures suggests a growing discontent with traditional political narratives.

As the Cockroach Janata Party continues to gain prominence, its future role in India’s political discourse remains to be seen, especially amidst claims of repression faced by new entities in the political arena.
