Nikon Issues Technical Advisory for Z6 III, Z5 II, and ZR Cameras
Nikon has released a Technical Service Advisory (TSA) concerning a hardware defect impacting certain models of its Z6 III, Z5 II, and ZR cameras. The advisory, which is available on Nikon Japan and Nikon USA’s websites, indicates that affected units may become inoperable due to a manufacturing issue. Nikon has not specified the overall number of cameras impacted but has identified specific serial number ranges linked to this problem.
The advisory states, "We have confirmed a manufacturing issue with certain Z6 III, Z5 II, and ZR cameras, which may cause the cameras to become inoperable. We have identified a range of serial numbers for the affected products, and Nikon will provide repairs free of charge regardless of the warranty period, including shipping. We apologise for any inconvenience to our customers."
Camera owners are encouraged to check if their device falls within the identified ranges by locating the serial number, which can be found on a label situated behind the camera’s rear display.
Repairs will be provided without charge, and even cameras that are out of warranty will be eligible for service. Repair requests are slated to begin on March 23, 2026. Nikon has assured customers that it will only collect essential personal information required to execute the repair process and the return shipping.
This type of advisory is not unprecedented for Nikon. In 2023, the company also issued advisories for Z8 cameras regarding lens compatibility issues and previous advisories for the Z9 that concerned malfunctioning lens release buttons. In all cases, Nikon provided free repairs, irrespective of warranty status.
For current Nikon camera owners looking to see if their Z6 III, Z5 II, or ZR is impacted, detailed instructions for verifying serial numbers can be accessed through Nikon’s online resources. Customers with questions about the advisory can reach Nikon Customer Relations during specified hours for assistance.
Nikon has expressed its commitment to customer satisfaction and aims to resolve this issue promptly for those affected. For further details or to check the serial number of your camera, visit Nikon's service advisory page.
