New Vande Bharat Service Enhances Jammu-Srinagar Pilgrimage Travel
The extended Vande Bharat Express service will facilitate faster travel between Jammu and Srinagar, improving connectivity for pilgrims.

The launch of the extended Vande Bharat Express train service between Jammu and Srinagar is set to significantly enhance rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir. Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, will inaugurate this new route from Jammu Tawi Railway Station on April 30, 2026.

Previously, the Vande Bharat Express operated from Srinagar to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station but will now run all the way to Jammu Tawi, providing a seamless journey for passengers. Regular service is scheduled to commence on May 2, 2026.

According to details from the Northern Railway, the service will be known as Train Nos. 26401/26402 Vande Bharat Express, covering the 236-kilometre distance in approximately 4 hours and 50 minutes. Notable stops will include key stations such as Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Reasi, and Banihal.

The train will leave Jammu Tawi at 6:20 AM and is projected to arrive in Srinagar by 11:10 AM. On its return journey, it will depart from Srinagar at 2:00 PM and reach Jammu Tawi at 6:50 PM. This schedule allows for same-day travel between the two regions.

The Vande Bharat services will operate six days a week, excluding Wednesdays. An existing service from Srinagar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra will also be extended to Jammu Tawi, further enhancing transport options in the region.

Details from the revised timetable indicate that Train No. 26404 from Srinagar is set to leave at 8:00 AM and arrive at Jammu Tawi at 12:40 PM. The return train, Train No. 26403, will depart from Jammu Tawi at 1:20 PM and arrive in Srinagar at 6:00 PM.

Officials have reported that the trains will be equipped with a modern 20-coach Vande Bharat rake, designed to provide enhanced comfort, improved safety, and faster transit times for passengers. Additionally, the service will make use of electric traction and will be primarily maintained at Budgam.

Authorities have described this development as a historic milestone for Jammu and Kashmir, noting that the introduction of this semi-high-speed train is expected to significantly reduce travel times and promote better connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region.

The inauguration ceremony is anticipated to attract various dignitaries and senior railway officials, marking a pivotal step in advancing transportation infrastructure and fostering economic growth in the area.
