Mamata Banerjee Claims Exit Polls Target TMC Morale Ahead of Voting
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating exit polls projections to undermine her party, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). In a video message shared on social media, Ms. Banerjee expressed her concerns about the timing of the projections, which she claims were disseminated by television channels following instructions from the BJP's office.
Anticipating the counting of votes on May 4, 2026, Ms. Banerjee asserted that her party would secure more than 226 seats in the upcoming assembly polls. She expressed confidence in the TMC's performance, stating that these predictions were part of a strategy to weaken the resolve of her party's members.
The West Bengal assembly elections are significant as they will determine the future governance of the state, which has a substantial political landscape influenced by various parties including the BJP and the TMC. As exit polls can shape public perception and morale, Ms. Banerjee's claims highlight the contentious nature of election predictions in India.
In her addresses, the Chief Minister has consistently emphasised the strength and commitment of her party in the face of opposition tactics and remains optimistic about their electoral success, in spite of what she describes as misleading information disseminated by rival factions. The upcoming counting day promises to be a critical juncture for the TMC and its supporters as they await the official results of this highly anticipated electoral battle.
