India's Rajnath Singh Urges Italy to Halt Defence Technology Sharing with Pakistan
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted bilateral discussions with his Italian counterpart, Guido Crosetto, in New Delhi on April 30, 2026. Singh urged Italy to refrain from sharing sensitive defence technologies with Pakistan, highlighting the impact this could have on India's security interests.
The talks were held at the Manekshaw Centre, where officials from both nations reviewed the full spectrum of their defence partnership. Sources from India's Ministry of Defence indicated that Singh conveyed his concerns directly, emphasising the necessity for Italy to protect critical technologies dealt with India, ensuring they remain exclusive.
In response, the Italian delegation assured that certain defence technologies offered to India would not be shared with other countries. This commitment aims to reinforce the trust and collaboration between the two nations, especially within the context of regional security concerns.
Defence cooperation between India and Italy has seen a significant boost, particularly following Rajnath Singh's visit to Rome in October 2023. During these discussions, the ministers planned to review ongoing defence ties and explore potential areas for further collaboration, especially in industrial partnerships.
The meeting is a continuation of the burgeoning relationship highlighted by the India-European Union Defence and Strategic Partnership signed in January 2026, which has prompted deeper defence industrial cooperation between India and Italy. As both nations navigate an increasingly complex global security landscape, they aim to align their strategies and enhance their collective defence capabilities.
