Modi Urges Unity Amidst West Asia Crisis in Mann Ki Baat Address
On March 29, 2026, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation during his monthly Mann Ki Baat broadcast, highlighting the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. He remarked on the adverse effects of this situation and urged citizens to avoid politicising the crisis.
Prime Minister Modi described the period as one of 'challenging times' and cautioned Indians to remain wary of misleading information circulating regarding the conflict. He stated, "I urge all my countrymen that we must unitedly overcome this challenge. Those who are politicising even this issue should refrain from doing so. This is a matter concerning the interests of 140 crore countrymen; there is no place for self-serving politics."
Modi acknowledged the importance of the Gulf countries, as millions of Indians reside and work there. He expressed gratitude for the support provided by these countries to approximately 10 million Indian nationals. The Prime Minister further elaborated on the impact the war has had on global petrol and diesel supplies, signalling a 'crisis' that could affect energy requirements in India as well.
In addition to discussing the geopolitical landscape, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the importance of discernment amidst the proliferation of rumours. He encouraged citizens to trust information directly from the government to ensure they are adequately informed and not misled.
Apart from the crisis in West Asia, Modi used the platform to announce various initiatives geared towards nation-building efforts. One notable initiative is the Gyan Bharatam Survey, which seeks to collect information about historical manuscripts across India. He encouraged individuals to share any manuscripts they have through a dedicated application.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister spotlighted the MY Bharat Budget Quest programme, designed to involve the youth in the national budgeting process. He noted the participation of nearly 1.2 million youth in a quiz competition related to the budget, with around 160,000 selected for subsequent essay submissions, showcasing the engagement of young minds in governmental processes.
In a lighter segment of his address, Modi praised India's recent sporting achievements, notably the country's victory in the T20 World Cup, which generated immense national pride. He also highlighted that the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team secured their first Ranji Trophy title in almost seventy years, which he believed would inspire more interest in sports among the youth in the region.
