IndiGo Flight from Kuwait Diverts to Mumbai Due to Bomb Threat
MUMBAI: An IndiGo flight en route from Kuwait to Hyderabad was diverted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai on 2 December 2025 following a bomb threat. The aircraft, carrying 228 passengers, made an emergency landing at approximately 7:45 am local time, according to airport officials.
The threat was communicated via an email warning of a potential bomb on board, which led authorities to classify the risk as credible. In response, the aircraft was guided to an isolation bay upon arrival at the Mumbai airport, where thorough security checks were conducted.
An IndiGo spokesperson stated, "A security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E1234 operating from Kuwait to Hyderabad on 2nd December 2025 due to which the aircraft was diverted to Mumbai. Following the established protocol, we informed the relevant authorities immediately and fully cooperated with them in carrying out the necessary security checks before the aircraft is cleared for operations. Safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft are our topmost priorities."
Emergency teams were on standby for the flight's arrival, ensuring a rapid response to the situation. Following extensive checks, no suspicious items were found on board, and the aircraft was declared safe.
This incident follows a similar occurrence on 23 November when a bomb threat was reported at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, which also turned out to be a false alarm. The recent threats have raised concerns about aviation security in India, prompting increased vigilance from airport authorities.
As investigations continue, passengers and their families are advised to stay informed through official channels and updates from IndiGo.
The incident is part of a broader context of heightened security alerts at airports across India, with protocols in place to respond to such threats efficiently. In previous incidents, including a hoax threat at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, coordinated responses from security agencies have been crucial in maintaining safety and order. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the threats to come forward to aid in the investigations.
