India Maintains Robust Oil and LPG Supplies Amid Regional Tensions
India assures 60 days of oil and one month of LPG supplies amidst conflict in West Asia, easing fears of a fuel shortage.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) of India has provided updates regarding the country's energy reserves amid escalating tensions in West Asia. On 26 March 2026, officials confirmed that India has sufficient fuel stocks, dispelling fears of potential shortages driven by recent conflicts in the region.

According to a government statement, Indian oil companies have secured crude oil supplies that can sustain the nation for the next 60 days. This figure indicates an increase from earlier reports suggesting that India had 50 days of total stocks at the onset of the West Asian conflict. Cumulatively, this brings India's total reserve capacity to 74 days, which comprises crude oil, petrol, and diesel.

The statement asserted, “Nearly two months of steady supply is available for every Indian citizen regardless of what happens globally.” It emphasised that contracts have already been secured for crude procurement over the next two months, ensuring that India’s fuel security remains intact.

In respect to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the government reported that it has arranged supplies sufficient for one month through imports, with significant ongoing procurement activities. A notable reduction in reliance on LPG imports has been achieved, as domestic production has reportedly increased to surpass import needs. This improvement has raised daily output to 50 thousand Metric Tonnes (TMT), covering over 60% of India's domestic requirements.

Approximately 800 TMT of LPG shipments are currently en route to India from various countries including the United States, Russia, and Australia. The government has outlined that this guarantee of supply will alleviate any undue worries regarding LPG availability.

Officials cautioned the public against misleading social media narratives that allege fuel shortages. In this regard, the government signalled intentions to take appropriate legal action against individuals responsible for disseminating fabricated claims.

Such measures aim to maintain public confidence in the country's fuel supply capabilities and ensure that citizens remain informed about the accurate status of energy resources during this period of uncertainty.
