Kerala Police Launch Investigation Following AI Video Controversy

The Kerala Police have initiated legal proceedings concerning the dissemination of an artificial intelligence-generated video on the platform X, which is alleged to have portrayed the Prime Minister of India and officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in a deceptive and damaging light during the current Assembly election cycle.

Authorities became aware of this content through various official channels, including reports from the Election Commission. Following verification, police officials concluded that the video could mislead the public and undermine the credibility of important constitutional institutions, thereby jeopardising the integrity of the electoral process.

In line with the Model Code of Conduct and relevant legal provisions, the Cyber Operations wing of the Kerala Police has taken steps to prevent further distribution of this material. Legal notices have been dispatched to the platform under the Information Technology Act and its associated regulations, requesting the immediate removal of the content.

A case has also been filed at the Cyber Crime Police Station located in Thiruvananthapuram against the account associated with the handle “Laxmi N Raju (@valiant_Raju)” along with others potentially involved in this incident.

Officials confirmed that an investigation is currently active to identify those responsible and to initiate appropriate legal measures. The police force reiterated their commitment to maintaining the integrity of the election process and stressed the importance of taking decisive, lawful, and fair action against any attempts to disrupt or manipulate elections through misinformation or illegal digital content.

Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid creating, sharing, or amplifying any unverified or misleading information, particularly in the sensitive context of ongoing elections. By fostering an environment of informed and responsible sharing, the aim is to uphold a fair electoral process.
