Eight More Indian Nationals Repatriated After Qatar Industrial Accident
The Indian Embassy in Doha announced the repatriation of eight Indian nationals who lost their lives in a recent industrial accident at Ras Laffan in Qatar. This brings the total number of deceased repatriated to twelve, following the earlier return of four bodies. The embassy confirmed that the remains of the eight individuals were flown back to India on June 26. On June 25, four victims had already been repatriated.
A statement from the Indian Embassy, shared on social media platform X, expressed their gratitude towards Qatari authorities, Indian community organisations, and government bodies in India for their swift assistance in the repatriation process.
The tragic accident occurred at the Barzan local gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, operated by QatarEnergy LNG, and resulted in the loss of thirteen lives, including twelve Indians. Following the explosion, officials stated that 66 others sustained injuries.
Ambassador Vipul and embassy officials visited the injured Indian nationals in Alkhor, ensuring that those affected are receiving adequate medical care. The embassy acknowledged the support provided by the Qatari authorities and representatives from the companies involved.
In a statement, the embassy said, “The injured have all received appropriate medical attention for which the Embassy thanks Qatari authorities and employer company representatives.”
The explosion, which occurred during the start-up operations at the facility, prompted an immediate emergency response from QatarEnergy. The incident highlights the dangers associated with industrial operations, particularly in high-stakes environments such as gas supply facilities.
The Indian government has committed to providing assistance to the families of the victims and the injured, maintaining communication with Qatari authorities to support those affected by this tragic event.
