DMK Unveils Ambitious Election Manifesto Ahead of Tamil Nadu Polls
Tamil Nadu's DMK outlines welfare and economic measures in a new manifesto, pledging monthly aid for women and promises for education and healthcare.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, has released the election manifesto for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, which highlights a comprehensive package of welfare and economic initiatives as the state gears up for the 2026 Assembly elections. The manifesto was unveiled at the party headquarters in Chennai, with Stalin emphasising the government's commitment to continuing its development trajectory.

A key feature of the manifesto is the proposed increase of monthly financial assistance for women heads of families from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. This change is expected to benefit over 1.37 crore women in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, the monthly pension for the elderly is set to rise to Rs 2,000, enhancing economic security for senior citizens.

In the education sector, the government plans to expand its breakfast scheme, which currently supports students from Classes 1 to 5, to include up to Class 8, estimated to help around 15 lakh pupils. Furthermore, laptops will be distributed to 35 lakh students pursuing higher education to support digital learning.

The manifesto also outlines economic support for women’s self-help groups, enabling them to access interest-free loans of up to Rs 5 lakh. Health insurance benefits under the Chief Minister’s health insurance scheme will see an increase, lifting the annual income eligibility limit to Rs 5 lakh and raising the sum assured to Rs 10 lakh.

Infrastructure development remains a focus, with plans to construct 10 lakh new houses over the next five years. Dialysis facilities in government hospitals will double, ensuring better healthcare services for residents.

Among the economic plans, the DMK aims to attract investments of Rs 18 lakh crore to stimulate growth, targeting an economic size of USD 120 billion. New technology parks, referred to as Neo Tidel Parks, are to be established to create employment opportunities in the technology sector, with expectations to generate 50 lakh jobs over five years.

Stalin affirmed that the initiatives are part of a broader “Six Steps towards Progress” strategy, aimed at promoting social justice and economic prosperity. He noted the consistent delivery on electoral promises as a hallmark of the party’s governance. In his remarks, he stated that the DMK fulfilled its commitments and enhanced welfare schemes for the state's growth.

The manifesto also features measures to bolster agricultural support, such as providing free modern electric pump sets to over 20 lakh farmers. Additionally, the party has pledged to increase procurement prices of crops like paddy and sugarcane.

In a bid to enhance women's participation in the workforce, the manifesto proposes establishing 1,000 childcare centres in industrial areas to support working mothers. There is also a commitment to skill development, with plans to offer monthly stipends during training under state initiatives.

Cultural initiatives are not overlooked, as the manifesto outlines plans for an international classical Tamil conference in Chennai and significant renovations of temples across the state.

To further streamline governmental functions, the DMK has promised to implement a unified digital platform for access to government services and prioritise citizen requests through participatory mechanisms.

Polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections is scheduled for April 23, 2026, covering all 234 constituencies with an electorate of over 5.6 crore voters. The DMK manifesto presents a robust vision aimed at both welfare expansion and economic growth as the party seeks re-election.
