Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta opens the first International Film Festival, showcasing over 125 films from around the globe.

The inaugural International Film Festival of Delhi commenced on March 25, 2026, with a ceremony attended by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The event took place at Bharat Mandapam, where Gupta highlighted the importance of this festival in establishing Delhi as a significant player in the global film industry, alongside well-known film cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Goa.

The festival is set to run until March 31, featuring an impressive lineup of over 125 Indian and international films. This initiative aims to promote cinematic diversity and offer a platform for filmmakers from various countries. Gupta stated, "Through this initiative, we are ensuring that the Capital secures its position on the global film map."

As part of the opening ceremony, the audience was treated to a screening of the film 'Sirât,' directed by Óliver Laxe, which has garnered acclaim, including the Jury Prize at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The festival promises to showcase cinematic works spanning multiple genres and languages, attracting filmmakers and film enthusiasts from around the world.

The International Film Festival of Delhi aspires to foster cultural exchange through film and facilitate discussions on important societal themes depicted on-screen.
