Chinnaswamy Stadium to Host Two International Matches in 2026-27
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is set to host international cricket matches once again, marking a significant return after a lengthy absence. The stadium will feature two fixtures: the fifth T20I match between India and the West Indies on 17 October, 2026, and the second One Day International (ODI) match against Sri Lanka on 16 December, 2026.
This announcement comes as part of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) home schedule for the senior men's international cricket season. The venue has not hosted an international fixture since October 2024, when India faced New Zealand in a Test match. The stadium's inactivity was partly due to safety concerns following an incident during celebrations for the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) title win in June 2025, which resulted in the loss of 11 lives.
In addition to the fixtures in Bengaluru, the upcoming home season will see matches held in various locations across India. Guwahati, which hosted its first Test match in November 2025 against South Africa, is scheduled to welcome the third Test against Australia next year. Other venues for Test matches include Nagpur, Chennai, Ranchi, and Ahmedabad.
The complete schedule for the series against the West Indies includes three ODIs, taking place in Thiruvananthapuram on 27 September, Guwahati on 30 September, and New Chandigarh on 3 October, all starting at 2 p.m. The T20Is will take place in Lucknow, Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, with matches commencing at 7 p.m.
Following the West Indies series, India will face Sri Lanka with ODIs in Delhi on 13 December, Bengaluru on 16 December, and Ahmedabad on 19 December, all starting at 2 p.m. The T20 series against Sri Lanka will feature matches in Rajkot, Cuttack, and Pune in late December, also commencing at 7 p.m.
The Indian team will conclude the season with three ODIs against Zimbabwe in early January 2027 and a complete Test series against Australia, running from 21 January to 3 March across several Indian cities.
As international cricket returns to Bengaluru, fans and players alike are poised for a highly anticipated season scheduled for late 2026 and early 2027.
