Raghav Chadha's Exit from AAP Triggers Political Clash
Raghav Chadha's departure from AAP to BJP creates political tensions as party leaders exchange barbs.

Raghav Chadha, a Member of Parliament from the Rajya Sabha, has recently exited the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This decision has led to a heated exchange of comments between Chadha and his former colleagues in AAP.

Chadha's departure, alongside six other MPs, marks a significant shift within the AAP, as they merged into the ruling BJP. He publicly labelled the culture within AAP as resembling a 'toxic workplace' in a video shared on his social media platforms. His remarks suggest deep dissatisfaction with the internal workings of the party he was part of for over 15 years.

Saurabh Bhardwaj, the chief of the AAP’s Delhi unit, responded critically to Chadha’s claims. He pointed out that a departure from a company typically involves a notice period to ensure smooth transitions, accusing Chadha of breaching professional etiquette. Bhardwaj further implied that Chadha's marriage to actress Parineeti Chopra was facilitated by his political position, stating, "If you could get married today, that is because the party made you a member of Parliament. Otherwise, no one would have asked you."

Raghav Chadha and Parineeti Chopra celebrated their wedding in September 2023 at the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, a high-profile event attended by notable figures, including Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi, and Bhagwant Mann, the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Chadha expressed his feelings about leaving AAP, stating, “I am not here to make my career in politics. You are censored from speaking in Parliament and doing work. This party is now in some corrupt hands.” This assertion adds weight to his dissatisfaction with AAP's current political climate.

The change in allegiance of Chadha and his colleagues—Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, and others—has prompted AAP officials to consider legal action. Sanjay Singh, an AAP MP, announced that the party would approach the courts if the seven MPs who left were not disqualified under the anti-defection law, citing procedural irregularities.

This political upheaval has implications beyond individual careers, illustrating the dynamic landscape of Indian politics as party loyalties shift and conflicts arise. The recent developments highlight ongoing challenges within AAP and reveal underlying tensions as they navigate the fallout from these exits.
