PV Sindhu Anticipates Bright Future for Indian Badminton
PV Sindhu discusses the current revival in Indian badminton, showcasing talent and promising prospects for the future of the sport.

Indian badminton player PV Sindhu has expressed optimism about the future of the sport in India, noting a significant rise in young talent. Following a challenging period, she believes the current generation of female athletes is significantly bridging the gap that once existed.

Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, recently reflected on the evolution of badminton in India. She highlighted that while there was a notable void of emerging players in earlier years, this has changed dramatically. In her view, the new wave of players is vital for elevating the profile of badminton in the country.

"Initially, there was a gap, but now we have these girls who are coming up and making everyone hopeful, including me," Sindhu stated during a recent media interaction. She emphasised the importance of continuous support and development for these athletes to sustain their momentum.

In the past year, Sindhu has witnessed a remarkable resurgence herself, having returned to the world’s top six rankings. This achievement comes on the back of strong performances, including a runner-up finish at the French Open and a dominant victory at the Hylo Open, where she did not lose a single game.

As the season nears its conclusion with the Badminton World Federation's World Tour Finals, Sindhu is determined to maintain her competitive edge. She reflected positively on her recent matches, stating that her team's hard work has been a key factor in her return to form. "I am truly thankful to my whole team, as they are dedicated to keeping my fitness levels high," she remarked.

Sindhu identified the necessity of balance in her training routine, especially at 31 years of age. Perceiving her experience as an asset, she sees potential for a comeback to her previous level of dominance between 2016 and 2019. "If you take care of your body, definitely yes," she declared when asked about her aspirations for the future.

The proposed introduction of a 15-point scoring system in badminton has also been a topic of discussion, particularly regarding how it will influence gameplay strategies. Sindhu noted that the shift from the long-standing 21-point format will require her and other players to adapt significantly, as every point now holds greater weight.

In summary, Sindhu's insights reflect not only her personal ambitions but also a broader, revitalised enthusiasm for the future of badminton in India. With promising younger players stepping into the limelight, the sport appears poised for a new era of success both domestically and on the international stage.
