PM Modi Emphasises National Goals in India's Reform Agenda
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the HT Leadership Summit 2025 on Saturday, asserting that the reforms implemented in India today are driven by national objectives rather than past reactionary measures. The summit, themed 'Transforming Tomorrow,' provided a platform for discussions on India's future development.
During his address, Prime Minister Modi remarked, "At one time, reforms in India were reactionary. This means that either political interests were linked to major decisions, or they were announced to manage a crisis. However, reforms are carried out with national goals in mind. We have set targets. Each sector across the country is seeing improvement. Our growth is constant. Our intent is nation first."
The Prime Minister expressed confidence in India's steady growth trajectory, attributing it to a robust foundation of ongoing work that aims to pave the way for future transformations. He stated, "Today, as we discuss Transforming Tomorrow here, we must also understand that the belief in transformation that has been created is based on a strong foundation of the work currently being done. Today's reforms and today's performance are paving the way for tomorrow's transformation."
Modi underlined the importance of collective effort in national development, stating that true transformation is achievable when citizens contribute without barriers. He highlighted that India is tapping into its "vast and previously unrealised potential," particularly in regions like the Northeast and in tier two and tier three cities.
"A large part of Bharat's potential remained untapped for a very long time. When this untapped potential receives greater opportunities, and when people contribute to national development with full energy and without barriers, the nation's transformation becomes certain," he noted.
The Prime Minister pointed out significant reforms in various sectors, including the space industry, which he said had previously been under government control but is now open to private sector participation. He claimed that these changes are already yielding positive results.
In the context of global uncertainties, Modi stated that India is emerging as a self-reliant nation, exhibiting deep confidence in its capabilities. He concluded his address by paying tribute to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, on his Mahaparinirvan Diwas, commemorating his legacy in shaping modern India.
