Pakistan Warns India Against False Flag Operations Amid Tensions
Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif issues strong warning to India about possible repercussions, intensifying geopolitical tensions in South Asia.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the Defence Minister of Pakistan, has issued a stern warning to India in a recent press conference, stating that Pakistan would respond decisively to any perceived provocations. Speaking on April 4, 2026, in Sialkot, located approximately 130 kilometres from Lahore, Asif specifically mentioned the potential for a response in Kolkata if India attempts to stage a false flag operation.

"If India tries to stage any false flag operation this time, then God-willingly, we will take it to Kolkata," Mr. Asif asserted during his comments. This statement underscores the rising tensions between the two countries, which have a long history of conflict and accusations against each other. The Defence Minister elaborated that there are suspected plans for a false flag operation involving the use of Pakistani detainees, alleging that India might misrepresent them as terrorists in a crafted narrative.

Asif's claims, however, lack substantiation, as he did not provide concrete evidence to back the accusations. His warning aligns with a previous statement made on April 2, 2026, where he indicated that any attack on Pakistan would invoke a swift and calibrated response. This remark came in light of statements from Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who had mentioned that any misadventures from Pakistan would result in "unprecedented and decisive" action from India.

The existing tensions are reminiscent of the fallout from the Pahalgam attack on April 22 last year, which led to a multi-day conflict between the two nations. Analysts express concern that escalating rhetoric on both sides exacerbates an already fragile relationship in the region.

The ongoing exchanges of threats highlight the precarious balance of power in South Asia, and many observers are calling for backchannel diplomacy to avert potential miscalculations that could lead to military confrontations.
