Nora Fatehi Submits Apology to NCW Over Sarke Chunar Controversy
Nora Fatehi, a prominent Indian actress, recently appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) concerning the controversy surrounding the song 'Sarke Chunar' from the film 'KD: The Devil.' As part of the proceedings, she submitted a written apology to the Commission.
In her statement, Fatehi expressed, 'I have submitted my apology to the Commission. It was not my intention to offend anybody. I have to be responsible as an artist.' Additionally, she announced her decision to sponsor the education of several orphaned girls as part of her commitment to social responsibility.
This incident follows a similar appearance by fellow actor Sanjay Dutt, who was summoned by the NCW on 27 April for the same issue. Dutt also offered an apology during his hearing and pledged to sponsor the education of 50 tribal girls, highlighting a commitment to social welfare and the empowerment of women.
The controversy surrounding 'Sarke Chunar' emerged due to objections related to its perceived obscene lyrics and choreography. After receiving backlash, including actions taken by members of Parliament, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting intervened, resulting in a ban on the song's Hindi version on platforms such as YouTube.
During his appearance, Dutt indicated that he had no prior knowledge of the song's lyrics, translation, or final presentation, asserting that his involvement was solely as an actor contracted to perform. Dutt attended the session with a legal team led by Advocate Hemant Shah, emphasising his respect for women and social values. He also assured the Commission that he would implement measures in future projects to prevent any disrespect towards women or children.
Nora Fatehi’s appearance before the NCW marks a continuation of the Commission’s efforts in addressing the issues raised regarding the controversial song. The NCW's ongoing proceedings underline the significance of maintaining respect for women in the arts, amidst growing public scrutiny of artistic expression in Indian cinema.
