Kerala Congress Leader Faces Backlash Over Inappropriate Hug

A video featuring Congress leader Cherian Philip attempting to embrace Kollam Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Bindu Krishna has ignited controversy on social media. The incident occurred at the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram during a legislative party meeting. The footage shows Bindu Krishna, 48, entering the KPCC office in a white and yellow saree. After greeting media personnel and shaking hands with party workers, she extends her hand towards Philip for a handshake. However, in what appears to be a disregard for her comfort, Philip, 71, moves to hug her instead.

In the video, he places one arm around her neck and tries to pull her hand down, which evidently makes Krishna uncomfortable. As she moves away and tries to push him back, Philip allegedly makes another attempt to embrace her before she withdraws and folds her hands. The awkward exchange has drawn significant scrutiny online, with many viewers criticising Philip’s actions.

Comments decrying the behaviour have flooded in, with users calling for disciplinary measures against Philip. One viewer remarked, 'Whatever the intention was, when a woman clearly steps away and pushes someone aside, that boundary should be respected immediately. Public life and political seniority are never excuses for unwanted physical contact.'

Another user labelled Philip as a 'vulture' for his behaviour, highlighting the discomfort experienced by the MLA during the interaction.
