Akhilesh Yadav Offers Support to Mamata Banerjee After Election Defeat

Akhilesh Yadav, the National President of the Samajwadi Party, met with Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), in Kolkata on Thursday. The meeting took place following the TMC's significant defeat in the recent assembly elections, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a dominant victory with over two-thirds of the seats.

During the visit, Yadav spoke with Banerjee and expressed his belief that she had 'fought very well' during the elections. Banerjee acknowledged the loss, stating, 'We have lost,' to which Yadav responded, 'No, no, you have not lost.' Yadav, speaking to the media after their discussion, alleged that the election process was compromised by the BJP and the Election Commission of India, claiming that 'votes had been stolen.' He stressed the importance of upholding democracy, stating, 'If the right to vote is taken away, then what remains of democracy?'
