Krafton Announces BGMI Lite for Budget Smartphones in India
Krafton India confirms the launch of BGMI Lite, a lighter version designed for budget smartphones, slated for late 2026.

Krafton India has officially announced the upcoming release of Battlegrounds Mobile India Lite (BGMI Lite), a version of the popular battle royale game. Set to be launched by the end of 2026, BGMI Lite is anticipated to cater to users with budget-friendly or older smartphones. However, specific details regarding the game’s features, gameplay mechanics, and technical requirements have yet to be disclosed, with Krafton indicating that more information will be unveiled as the launch date approaches.

Gamers have a reference point in the previously released PUBG Mobile Lite, which debuted in July 2019. This version was specifically tailored for entry-level Android devices, providing an alternative for players facing limitations with RAM and storage. At its outset, PUBG Mobile Lite had a size of approximately 400MB and was engineered to run efficiently on smartphones possessing less than 2GB of RAM. To facilitate smooth gameplay, this earlier version featured a smaller map and hosted 60 players in matches, compared to the usual 100 in the full game. Furthermore, round durations in PUBG Mobile Lite were approximately 10 minutes, considerably shorter than the standard 25 minutes found in the main game.

Despite the trimmed gameplay experience, PUBG Mobile Lite maintained support for Unreal Engine 4, the same engine driving PUBG Mobile, and became a leading free game on Google Play in India.

Given these precedents, players are keenly interested to see if BGMI Lite will follow a similar development path. There has been a consistent demand for a lighter version of the game, especially among users of older devices who experience difficulties running the full version, which requires at least 2GB of RAM, with 4GB or 6GB recommended for optimal performance. Players typically need between 2GB and 5GB of free storage space along with a basic processor and graphics unit to run BGMI.

While there is significant anticipation surrounding BGMI Lite, Krafton has reserved comments on the anticipated system specifications, though expectations are that they would be similar to or slightly below those required for the basic BGMI, aiming for smoother operations on lower-end devices. As the launch date is still ahead, enthusiasts will have to await further updates from Krafton for more detailed guidelines regarding the game.
