Will Jacks records England's fastest fifty in T20 World Cup as he leads his team to victory against Italy in a thrilling encounter.

England's Will Jacks delivered a standout performance during the T20 World Cup, propelling his side to a formidable total against Italy. Coming in at No. 7 during a crucial phase of the match, Jacks faced a challenging situation with England at 105 for 5. However, he exhibited remarkable composure and skill, achieving a 21-ball fifty—the fastest ever for England in T20 World Cup history.

Jacks, affectionately nicknamed Slim Shady by teammates due to his bleach-blonde hairstyle reminiscent of the American rapper Eminem, turned the game around in the 16th over. He struck Ben Manenti for three consecutive boundaries, scoring 20 runs in that over alone. This aggressive approach contributed significantly to England finishing their innings at 202 runs from 20 overs.

The performance from Jacks was crucial, especially considering England's top order had been underwhelming, and he had to adapt to a lower batting position than he was used to. Previously, Jacks had shone as a top-order batsman, but he adjusted his strategy being mindful of the match situation.

Reflecting on his innings, Jacks commented, "The chat coming back from the guys who'd been in the middle is that it was a very good surface. We know normally here at Eden Gardens it's a batting-favoured track and obviously the outfield is incredibly quick. You need high scores. So going out, I knew I had to keep being positive and show that intent."

His innings included four sixes and three fours, showcasing a strike rate of 240.90. Jacks explained how he endeavoured to maintain his aggressive style despite the challenges of batting lower down the order. "Sometimes if I go in on the 13th or 14th over, I tell myself I have time, and then I go away from my natural game," he said. "Now I'm having to remind myself that no matter where I'm batting, I still want to be positive early on. And then that’s when I’m at my best."

More than just a tactical decision, Jacks' performance was also about making a personal statement. He admitted that he had struggled to make an impact in his T20 career until now. "To make a mark on the game is something I haven't done enough of in my T20 career. I've played a lot of games now, and that was my first fifty today. There've been a lot of games and many tours where I've not been happy with my performance and I've not been living up to my own expectations and not doing what I want for the team."

As England went on to win the match by 24 runs, Jacks' explosive innings reminded fans and teammates alike of the potential he has when given the chance. The encounter not only boosted England's morale in the tournament but also marked a turning point for Jacks personally, as he embraced the philosophy of making each opportunity count—a mantra reflecting Eminem's famous lyrics, "you only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime."
