Indian PM Narendra Modi to Visit Israel for Parliamentary Address
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Israel from February 25 to 26, as announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During his visit, Modi is expected to address the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, marking his second trip to the country following his first visit in July 2017.
Netanyahu disclosed details of Modi's upcoming visit while speaking to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organisations in Jerusalem. He referred to the relationship between Israel and India as a ātremendous allianceā and highlighted India's significance as a nation with a population of 1.4 billion people, emphasising its power and global popularity.
A source in Jerusalem, quoted by the Press Trust of India, indicated that the visit is poised to have a substantial impact, given the extensive international recognition Modi enjoys. The Prime Minister is anticipated to discuss various bilateral and regional issues during his time in Israel.
The visit follows a series of high-profile ministerial exchanges between the two nations, aimed at solidifying their strategic partnership. Notably, in 2025, a delegation of Israeli ministers, including the Minister of Tourism Haim Katz and the Minister of Economy and Industry Nir Barkat, visited India to enhance cooperation.
During this period, the two nations have made significant progress towards formalising a Free Trade Agreement. A Bilateral Investment Treaty was signed during the visit of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to India, with further steps taken towards establishing an FTA.
In a recent meeting, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar conferred with notable Israeli leaders, including Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, to discuss shared interests and cooperation avenues.
One of the key developments in India-Israel relations includes a landmark agreement signed in November, which focuses on enhancing defence and technological cooperation. This agreement is designed to facilitate the exchange of advanced technologies, promoting joint development and production initiatives in various fields, including artificial intelligence and cyber security.
The Joint Working Group from both nations convened in Tel Aviv to deliberate on cooperation in defence, with Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in attendance alongside Israeli officials. Netanyahu previously remarked on the critical nature of the strategic dialogue, noting the depth of trust and mutual security interests between the two countries.
As preparations continue for Modi's visit, it is clear that the event is expected to be a significant moment for further deepening relations between India and Israel across multiple sectors.
