Iran Condemns US Strikes Amid Ongoing Military Tensions
The military conflict between the United States and Iran has escalated as both nations exchanged strikes for the first time since signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) last week. The US military stated that it targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities in response to a drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz a day prior. This incident prompted US President Donald Trump to level accusations against Iran for the attack.
Iranian state media reported that a projectile hit near a pier in Sirik, a city close to the Strait. Further reports indicated that Qeshm Island, part of Iran’s territory, also experienced strikes. In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it had aimed at locations housing US forces in the region. The IRGC's actions were described as a direct response to the latest US military operations.
These developments unfold just days before the two nations are slated to engage in their next round of diplomatic discussions, raising concerns about further escalation in hostilities.
The recent strikes highlight the fragile nature of US-Iranian relations, which remain tense despite attempts at diplomatic engagement. Experts suggest that continued military actions could complicate future talks, jeopardising any potential progress towards stabilising relations. As the conflict now enters its 120th day, observers remain vigilant over the unfolding situation.
