Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on a six-day trip to France and Slovakia, focusing on G7 summit participation and strengthening bilateral ties.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a six-day visit to France and Slovakia on June 13, 2026, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. The Prime Minister emphasised the significant role France plays in India's strategic vision. This visit follows President Macron's earlier trip to India in which the two nations elevated their relationship to a Special Global Strategic Partnership.

During his visit, Mr. Modi aims to engage in various activities, including bilateral discussions, multilateral engagements, and interactions with the Indian diaspora. He stated, 'The focus will be on boosting economic as well as cultural linkages.'

On June 16 and 17, the Prime Minister will participate in the G7 Summit in Evian, where he intends to engage with numerous world leaders to discuss pressing global issues. Mr. Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to acting as a representative voice for the Global South, saying, 'India will not only speak for itself, but it will also give voice to the aspirations of the Global South.'

Following the G7 Summit, Mr. Modi will be in Paris on June 18 for the VivaTech 2026 event, aimed at celebrating innovation and technology. 'I am glad to be attending one of Europe's important gatherings for tech and innovation,' he noted.

Additionally, Mr. Modi and President Macron are scheduled to inaugurate 'Bharat Innovates' in Nice on June 14. This event, held as part of the India-France Year of Innovation, seeks to connect India's promising start-ups with global investors.

After the event in Nice, Mr. Modi will travel to Slovakia for a state visit on June 14 and 15, marking the first time an Indian Prime Minister visits the independent nation. He is expected to have discussions with Slovak President Pellegrini and Prime Minister Fico in Bratislava, focusing on bolstering the bilateral relationship between India and Slovakia.

The Prime Minister also expressed hope that this visit would further energise India's strategic partnership with the European Union, which Slovakia is part of. In a statement released prior to his departure, Mr. Modi remarked, 'India’s presence at the G7 reflects the trust our partners place in us and our growing global profile.'

Concluding his visit on June 18, Mr. Modi affirmed that these engagements would strengthen India’s ties with Europe and the G7, demonstrating India's commitment to expanding partnerships on the continent and globally.
