Hyundai Bayon SUV Launches in India: Key Features and Specs
Hyundai has officially launched the Bayon SUV in India today, marking a significant addition to its vehicle lineup. Potential buyers can now book the vehicle for an initial amount of Rs. 11,000 via authorised dealerships and the company’s official website. Customer deliveries are anticipated during the festive season.
Strategically positioned between the Venue and Creta models in Hyundai's domestic portfolio, the Bayon emphasises safety as one of its standout attributes. According to Hyundai, the vehicle comes with over 35 safety features as standard, contributing to a total equipment count exceeding 80. Standard provisions include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, hill-start assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point seatbelts, rear parking sensors, a rollover sensor, and an emergency stop signal. The Bayon's structure is comprised of 69 per cent advanced multi-grade high-strength steel, with Hyundai aiming for a five-star safety rating through the Global K Enhanced Platform.
Higher trim levels of the Bayon are equipped with Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), featuring 23 functions that enhance driving safety. This suite includes navigation-oriented smart cruise control, Highway Driving Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, lane-keeping assistance, forward collision avoidance, and Safe Exit Warning. Other notable technologies in this segment include a Surround View Monitor, Blind-spot View Monitor, front parking sensors, and all-wheel disc brakes.
Under the hood, the Bayon is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder MPi petrol engine, generating an output of 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque. This engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT), which offers Eco, Normal, and Sport drive modes. The iVT variant includes paddle shifters, Dash Boost Mode for enhanced overtaking response, and Sporty Drive Technology. Since its introduction in 2020, the engine has been fitted in over 600,000 vehicles sold by Hyundai in India.
The vehicle's interior features dual 12.3-inch displays dedicated to infotainment and instrumentation. Utilising NVIDIA hardware, the Bayon becomes the first of Hyundai's models in India to incorporate a generative AI voice assistant developed by Perplexity and SoundHound AI, offering over 70 Bluelink connected functions with the capability of over-the-air updates for up to 19 vehicle controllers.
Significant interior amenities include ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, Bose audio system, auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror, and a rear centre armrest. The user interface supports multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, and Hinglish, and encompasses more than 500 voice commands across these languages.
In terms of aesthetics, the Bayon offers a selection of ten exterior colours, including monotone, dual-tone, and matte finishes. The monotone colours available are Titanium Black, Classy Blue, Atlas White, Fiery Red, Golden Bronze, and Ecotronic Grey. Notably, Atlas White and Fiery Red can be customised with a black roof, while Titanium Black Matte and Classy Blue Matte are also colour choices available to customers.
