India's Consumer Price Index inflation increased to 0.71% in November 2025, up from 0.25% in October, driven by rising food prices.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate in India has seen a notable increase, rising to 0.71% in November 2025, up from 0.25% in the previous month, October 2025. This shift represents a rise of 46 basis points, indicating a marked change in the inflationary landscape.

The All India Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) reported a provisional year-on-year inflation rate of -3.91% for November 2025, compared to the same month in 2024. Within this framework, the rural areas experienced a food inflation rate of -4.05%, while urban areas recorded a slightly higher figure of -3.60%.

The increase in both overall and food inflation during November 2025 can largely be attributed to rising prices in several categories, including vegetables, eggs, meat and fish, spices, as well as fuel and light. These factors have significantly impacted the cost of living for consumers across the country.

In the rural sector, the headline inflation rate for November 2025 was recorded at 0.10% (provisional), showing an increase from -0.25% in October 2025. The CFPI-based food inflation in rural regions stood at -4.05% (provisional), a slight improvement from -4.85% the previous month.

Conversely, urban areas showed a more pronounced increase, with headline inflation rising from 0.88% in October 2025 to 1.40% (provisional) in November 2025. Food inflation in urban settings also saw an improvement, moving from -5.18% in October 2025 to -3.60% (provisional) in November 2025.

Housing inflation in urban areas was reported at a provisional rate of 2.95% year-on-year in November 2025, a slight decrease from 2.96% recorded in October 2025. Meanwhile, education inflation across both rural and urban sectors was logged at a provisional rate of 3.38% for November 2025, down from 3.54% the previous month.

The health sector inflation, which combines data from both rural and urban areas, demonstrated a provisional year-on-year rate of 3.60% for November 2025, a decline from the 3.81% recorded in October 2025. Additionally, transport and communication inflation across the same sectors registered a provisional rate of 0.88% year-on-year in November 2025, down from 0.94% in the previous month.

Fuel and light inflation, affecting both rural and urban sectors, was recorded at a provisional rate of 2.32% in November 2025, which represents an increase from 1.98% in October 2025. This growth in fuel and light prices has further contributed to the overall inflationary pressures felt by consumers.

The shift in inflation rates highlights the ongoing economic fluctuations in India, with various sectors experiencing different levels of price changes. As the government continues to monitor these trends, consumers and businesses alike will be keen to see how future policies might address these inflationary challenges.
