Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever Players Named WNBA All-Star Starters
The WNBA has announced the ten starters for the upcoming All-Star Game, scheduled for July 25, and three players from the Indiana Fever have made the list. Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell will represent their team as starters. This marks the third consecutive year that all three players have been selected to the game, although it is the first time they have all been voted in as starters.
Caitlin Clark continues to be a standout player, averaging a remarkable 21.2 points per game, which places her fifth among all players in the league. Her performance this season has also seen her achieve a career-high of 8.2 assists per game, making her one of the most valuable players in the league.
Boston and Mitchell join Clark as collectively, they form a powerful contingent for the Fever. Boston has been named as a starter in previous years, while this will be Mitchell's first opportunity to start, having previously participated as a replacement.
Fans contributed 50% of the voting for the starters, with current players and a media panel each accounting for 25%. Players and media members submitted their ballots, comprising four guards and six frontcourt players.
This season, a new format will be introduced for the All-Star Game. Instead of the top two voted players becoming team captains as in previous years, WNBA icons Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon will act as general managers. They will select their teams from the 22 All-Stars in an effort to celebrate the league's 30th anniversary.
The Fever trio is not the only group of players making headlines; the Dallas Wings have also secured two spots in the starting lineup with Paige Bueckers and Jessica Shepard. Additionally, Natasha Howard and Olivia Miles from the Minnesota Lynx will be making their All-Star appearances.
Caitlin Clark's achievements include becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to surpass 1,000 career points and 500 assists. She has made significant strides toward recovery following injuries that troubled her during her sophomore season. Along with her teammates, she will head into the All-Star Game, with the announcement of twelve reserves to follow at a later date.
