BJP Campaigns in West Bengal Amid Political Tension and Rivalries
BJP leaders claim Congress is performing well in West Bengal elections, prompting questions about political strategies in a highly competitive landscape.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders are making bold claims regarding the performance of Congress in the upcoming West Bengal elections, described by some as a critical battleground. This assertion has sparked debate and speculation about the underlying strategy of the BJP, which appears to be attempting to bolster Congress in an effort to diminish the influence of the Trinamul Congress (TMC).

A recent conversation among senior leaders from the BJP, Congress, and TMC took place in a Kolkata hotel. During this encounter, a BJP leader asserted that Congress would perform well, suggesting they could win up to 16 constituencies. However, a TMC representative dismissed this prediction, estimating Congress would secure just two seats. The Congress, currently without representation in the outgoing Assembly, echoed this pessimistic view.

The actions of the BJP have led to speculation about a deliberate strategy to present Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party as weakening in the face of rising competition. Additionally, former Union Minister Smriti Irani, who has largely maintained a low profile since her defeat in the last Lok Sabha election, resurfaced in the political sphere. After a significant parliamentary vote regarding the women’s reservation bill, Irani re-emerged as a key voice for the BJP, especially given her proficiency in Bengali. She has since attracted large crowds while campaigning in West Bengal.

Politicians known for their star power have been employed to boost the BJP's visibility, including notable figures such as Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut. Yet, there have been concerns regarding their impact compared to the established popularity of TMC's campaigners, which include several film and music personalities. One rising star in this electoral landscape is Saayoni Ghosh, a member of Parliament from TMC, who has gained traction with her engaging speeches and ability to connect with voters.

Ghosh recently delivered a stirring speech at a rally in Bhabanipur, a constituency where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting once again. She recited prayers and chants from multiple religions, emphasizing the region's diversity and accusing the BJP of attempting to sow division among communities. "Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, we'll live among ourselves as brothers," she declared, underscoring her message of pluralism in a politically contentious environment.

While Ghosh continues to gain popularity, she faces challenges from established politicians, notably Mohua Moitra from her own party, who has held significant influence in West Bengal. However, as TMC's internal dynamics evolve, the BJP's efforts to position itself as a formidable contender seem increasingly strategic, aiming both to enhance Congress’s standing and to question Banerjee's leadership.

In a related development, some members within the Madhya Pradesh unit of Congress have expressed frustration with former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who is reportedly advocating for a Rajya Sabha position. This has not been well received among local leaders, especially given Nath's perceived alignment with the BJP.

As the election season intensifies, the dynamics between these political parties continue to shift, suggesting a complex interplay of strategy, popularity, and public perception that will play a crucial role in shaping the electoral outcomes across West Bengal.
