Air India Grounds Boeing 787 After Pilot Reports Fuel Control Issue
Air India has grounded a Boeing 787-8 following a pilot's report of a fuel control switch concern, with investigations underway.

Air India announced the grounding of a Boeing 787-8 aircraft on Monday after a pilot raised concerns regarding a potential defect in the fuel control switch. This incident, involving a flight from London to Bengaluru, has prompted the airline to notify Boeing, the original equipment manufacturer, to assess the situation as a priority.

In its official communication, Air India confirmed that it had alerted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the regulator overseeing aviation safety and standards in India, about the issue. Following DGCA's guidance, inspections were conducted on fuel control switches across all Boeing 787 aircraft in Air India’s fleet, with no anomalies discovered.

Boeing responded to the situation stating, "We are in contact with Air India and are supporting their review of this matter." The aircraft in question is part of Air India’s Dreamliner series, which has been under scrutiny due to past incidents that have raised safety concerns.

This latest development brings to mind the tragic accident involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner last year, which crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad and resulted in 260 fatalities, including passengers and crew. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) noted that the aircraft's engines faced a temporary recovery after an initial engine thrust failure, but they ultimately could not stabilise.

In the wake of that disaster, families of the victims continue to seek clarity and accountability. Pushkar Sabharwal, the father of late Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, who was the Pilot-in-Command during the Ahmedabad crash, has filed a plea calling for a thorough and independent investigation, advocating for oversight by a retired Supreme Court judge.

With the recent grounding, Air India aims to ensure passenger safety. They have committed to transparency and continue to work closely with Boeing for a comprehensive assessment of the reported issue. The airline's quick response reflects a growing emphasis on adhering to stringent safety protocols in aviation.
