India triumphed over Afghanistan by nine wickets in the third One Day International (ODI) held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, securing a 3-0 series victory. Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as the standout performer, scoring an impressive 110 runs off 86 balls. Chasing a total of 219 runs, India reached 224 for 1 in just 28.4 overs, showcasing dominance throughout the match under Shubman Gill’s captaincy.

Jaiswal’s innings was characterised by a blend of aggression and composure. He started the run chase confidently, taking advantage of the batting powerplay, and demonstrated exceptional skill in assessing the game as it progressed. His half-century came quickly, and he expertly managed the tempo, ensuring that there was no rush as India drove towards victory.

Significantly, Jaiswal’s approach appeared less about making a statement as an individual, and more about the collective success of the team. By mixing aggressive shots with effective strike rotation, he maintained momentum despite Afghanistan's attempts to regain control through spin bowling.

India's momentum was buoyed by Rohit Sharma, who contributed 79 runs off 69 balls. By the time Sharma was dismissed, India had comfortably set themselves up at 170 for 1. Jaiswal completed his century with a six off Mohammad Nabi, gracefully concluding his innings with another maximum to seal the match.

Earlier in the day, Afghanistan opted to bat first but struggled, finishing at 218 all out within 44.2 overs. Prasidh Krishna played a pivotal role in dismantling Afghanistan’s top order, claiming five wickets for just 23 runs. Despite a resilient century from Hashmatullah Shahidi, who scored 102, the Afghanistan total seemed inadequate once India's openers began their innings.

The match began to go awry for Afghanistan even before it started, as they conceded five penalty runs before any ball was bowled, giving India a head start of 5 runs.
