Yash Explains Rs 4000 Crore Budget of Ramayana Film: Global Approach
Indian actor and co-producer Yash has addressed the discussions surrounding the Rs 4000 crore budget for the upcoming film 'Ramayana'. This figure, initially presented by producer Namit Malhotra, has generated mixed reactions within the film industry, prompting concerns from trade experts about the film's ability to recover its costs. In a recent interview on the television programme 'Aap Ki Adalat', hosted by Rajat Sharma, Yash clarified that the Rs 4000 crore represents the total budget for two parts of the film, rather than just the first instalment.
Yash stated, “That is a misconception, so let me clarify it to everyone. Rs 4000 crore is the budget for the two-part film, including release and promotion. It is the same as Hollywood. Our partner (Namit) said this after including all that. Wahan ka maths waisa hi hota hai,” explaining that the budget is comparable to that of major Hollywood productions. He added that significant investments are often allocated for promotional activities that can match or exceed the film's production costs.
This film has been touted as the most expensive Indian film ever made, with hopes of reaching global audiences. Yash emphasised the necessity of spending large amounts to elevate Indian cinema on an international stage. “Cinema is a soft power. All of us have to work really hard towards it. Whatever happens, we will work hard and do our job properly. If not today, then tomorrow we’ll make it happen. If we don’t, someone else will - but it should happen,” he remarked.
In the two-part film 'Ramayana', Yash plays the role of Ravana, and features a cast that includes Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita. The film is helmed by director Nitesh Tiwari and includes notable actors such as Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, and Kunal Kapoor.
Set for release worldwide on November 6, just ahead of Diwali, the project aims to position itself as a landmark in Indian cinema. Prior to this, Yash is also expected to appear in 'Toxic', directed by Geetu Mohandas, which features a diverse cast including Kiara Advani and Nayanthara, scheduled for release on August 26.
