SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Defends Sukhbir Badal After Attack
Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a Member of Parliament representing the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) from Bathinda, stated on Saturday that the recent attack on her husband, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, will not diminish his voice. Speaking to a large crowd at an annual state gathering in Isru, near Ludhiana, Harsimrat expressed her emotional conviction that the struggle for Punjab's identity is what drives the Akali Dal forward.
She expressed unwavering faith in her husband's resilience despite the circumstances, saying, 'I firmly believe that he will return even stronger from this attack.' According to Harsimrat, the commitment Sukhbir has demonstrated is evident, as he instructed her to attend the event even from his hospital bed. 'This reflects his dedication,' she commented.
Citing her religious belief, she remarked, 'When Guru Sahib has saved his life twice, no one can harm him.' Harsimrat also recited a line from Gurbani, which translates to 'When you are with me, what is there to fear?'
The Isru event, held annually on Independence Day, attracts significant political figures across parties. Harsimrat's statements were supported by Senior Akali leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal, who commented on the historical targeting of Akali leaders, stating that anti-peace elements have consistently failed in their efforts against the party, referencing past leaders like Gurcharan Singh Tohra and Sant Harchand Singh Longowal.
The Shiromani Akali Dal faces ongoing challenges, particularly amid ongoing tensions in the region, but Harsimrat Kaur Badal's speech indicates a continued commitment to their cause and the Punjab ethos. This event serves as a platform to rally the party's supporters, reinforcing their message of resilience and unity against adversity.
