Xiaomi 17 Ultra Unveiled with Advanced Camera and Battery Features
Xiaomi has officially launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, in China, positioning it as a serious competitor to premium devices like Apple's iPhone 17 Pro. The device is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a massive 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens and a robust 6,800mAh battery.
The unveiling took place on 25 December 2025, with pre-orders commencing immediately. Sales are scheduled to begin on 27 December, but Xiaomi has yet to announce any details regarding availability in India or other international markets.
Key Specifications
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra boasts a sleek design with a flat 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display, featuring a resolution of 1.5K and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The screen is protected by Xiaomi Shield Glass 3, also known as Dragon Crystal Glass 3, which enhances durability.
At the heart of the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage technology. The device runs on Xiaomi's HyperOS 3, which is based on Android 16, offering enhanced user experience and connectivity features.
Camera Capabilities
The camera system is one of the standout features of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. It includes a 50MP main camera with a 1-inch sensor, known as the Light Master camera, which offers advanced optical image stabilisation and high dynamic range capabilities. Additionally, the 200MP periscope telephoto camera allows for seamless zoom from 75mm to 400mm, while a 50MP ultra-wide camera provides versatility for different photography needs.
For selfies and video calls, a 50MP Omnivision front-facing camera is included, which features a new ‘Fireworks Mode’ designed to optimise image quality in challenging lighting conditions.
Battery and Additional Features
The device is equipped with a significant 6,800mAh battery that supports 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, allowing for quick power replenishment. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra also includes IP68 water and dust resistance, ensuring durability in various environments. Other notable features are Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.
Market Availability and Pricing
Currently, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is only available in China, with no confirmed launch date for other markets, including India. Previous releases in the ‘Ultra’ series suggest a potential global launch may occur in conjunction with major tech events, such as the Mobile World Congress in 2026, although this has not been officially validated by the company.
Pricing details for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in China have been disclosed, but specific costs for the Indian market will depend on local taxes and Xiaomi's pricing strategy relative to competitors like Apple and Samsung. Indian consumers are advised to consider warranty implications and network compatibility should they choose to import the device.
As Xiaomi continues to innovate and expand its portfolio, the 17 Ultra is expected to attract significant attention from tech enthusiasts and consumers alike, particularly for its advanced camera capabilities and battery performance.
