The WHO and George Institute join forces to implement AI-driven primary healthcare solutions in South-East Asia, enhancing health access.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is collaborating with the George Institute for Global Health to advance artificial intelligence (AI) integration in primary healthcare across South-East Asia. This partnership aims to improve the delivery of healthcare services and make them more accessible to the region’s population.

AI technologies possess the potential to optimise various aspects of primary healthcare, including patient diagnosis and treatment planning. The initiative particularly focuses on adapting technological solutions to local health challenges.

Officials from the George Institute highlighted that the effective use of AI can lead to significant improvements in healthcare systems. Specifically, these technologies can aid healthcare providers in making quicker decisions and streamline workflows, thus reducing wait times for patients.

The collaboration aligns with WHO’s broader goal of enhancing healthcare infrastructure in low and middle-income countries, ensuring that quality healthcare is available to all.

As part of this initiative, training programs for healthcare professionals will be established, equipping them with the skills necessary to utilise AI effectively. The project is expected to address specific health issues prevalent in South-East Asia, tailoring solutions to meet local needs.

The WHO has expressed optimism regarding this partnership, viewing it as a critical step towards modernising healthcare systems across the region. By leveraging AI, the initiative seeks to foster an environment where health services are not only improved but also made more equitable for all citizens.
