Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Sets Records Ahead of U19 World Cup 2026
At just 14, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi makes history in List A cricket and prepares for the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made a significant impact on the Indian domestic cricket scene, becoming the youngest centurion in men’s List A cricket at just 14 years and 272 days. This remarkable feat occurred during the inaugural match of the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s leading 50-over domestic tournament.

Playing for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi, Sooryavanshi achieved his first senior one-day century in only his seventh appearance in the format. He reached this milestone in a record-breaking manner, scoring his hundred off just 36 balls. Furthermore, he continued to push the limits by scoring 150 runs in just 59 balls, setting a new record for the fastest score in men’s List A history. He concluded his innings with an impressive 190 runs off 84 balls, including 16 boundaries and 15 sixes.

This performance is part of a remarkable year for the young left-handed batsman, who is well-known in youth cricket circles. He is now considered a strong contender for India's squad in the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to begin on January 15 in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Sooryavanshi also made headlines at the recent Under-19 Asia Cup held in the United Arab Emirates, where he finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer, accumulating 261 runs in five innings at an impressive strike rate of 182.51. A standout performance during the tournament was his innings of 171 runs off 95 balls, which was just six runs short of the longstanding youth one-day record held by Ambati Rayudu.

His rise to prominence began during the 2025 Indian Premier League, where he became the youngest player to score a century in the tournament's history. He achieved this by scoring 101 runs off just 38 balls for the Rajasthan Royals against the Gujarat Titans, showcasing his talent against seasoned opponents.

Throughout the IPL season, Sooryavanshi scored a total of 252 runs across seven matches with a striking rate of 206.55, further demonstrating his capability to perform under pressure. Following this, he continued his impressive form during tours of England and Australia, particularly excelling in the series against England, where he scored 355 runs at a strike rate of 174.01.

With an average of 51.13 in 15 youth One Day Internationals, which includes two centuries and three half-centuries, Sooryavanshi has firmly established himself as one of the most promising young talents in the cricketing world. His strike rate of 158.79 highlights his aggressive batting style and ability to score rapidly.

As the World Cup approaches, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is not only rewriting record books but is also viewed as a key player in India’s pursuit of success in youth cricket on the global stage.
