Punjabi Makeup Artist Mad Sandhu Shot Dead in Amritsar
Mad Sandhu, a well-known Punjabi influencer and makeup artist, was shot dead in Amritsar on Saturday evening. Two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired at him around 6 PM, according to police reports. He was discovered lying on the road and succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a hospital.
Visuals of Mad Sandhu lying injured on the road have circulated widely on social media. The police, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sirivennela, have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Sandhu, whose full name was Madhusudan, had gained a considerable following for his makeup tutorials and discussions on issues surrounding the film industry, gender, and LGBTQ+ acceptance. Despite facing homophobic trolling, he often responded positively, asserting, "God had made me the way I am". Sandhu was open about his identity as a gay man and enjoyed a successful career in fashion, getting his start as a stylist and assistant costume designer in both Punjab and Mumbai.
His popularity surged through viral videos and Instagram reels, where he shared insights on luxury fashion, lifestyle, and social norms. He also appeared in various Punjabi films, including the 'Oye Bhole Oye' series.
As police continue their inquiry, the incident has raised alarms about safety and violence in the region, particularly towards individuals in the LGBTQ+ community.
