Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister of Education, presided over a significant review meeting on June 18, 2026, to discuss the preparations for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) re-examination. This review was convened ahead of the examination scheduled for June 21, 2026. The session included senior officials from the Ministry of Education, representatives from State Governments, the National Testing Agency (NTA), and various Higher Education Institutions. Among those in attendance were Sanjay Kumar, Secretary for the Department of School Education and Literacy, Vineet Joshi, Secretary for the Department of Higher Education, and Abhishek Singh, Director General of the NTA. During the meeting, Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the necessity of upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and efficiency throughout the examination process. He directed all involved authorities to remain attentive and thoroughly prepared. Pradhan emphasised the importance of ensuring the free and fair conduct of the re-examination and urged officials to establish the necessary measures in advance. The Minister also discussed the need for enhanced coordination at all levels. He announced that officers appointed by the Ministry would visit all States to oversee activities related to the re-examination and report to a Command Centre led by the NTA Director General. Sanjay Kumar remarked that provisions should be made to alleviate any stress for the students. He called for the State governments' nodal officers to ensure adequate facilities, such as proper seating arrangements and access to drinking water prior to the exam. Vineet Joshi underscored the critical timeframe leading up to the re-examination and stressed the necessity for proactive coordination along with timely instructions and strict adherence to established protocols. Abhishek Singh noted that the NTA was collaborating with all relevant stakeholders, including district coordination committees led by District Magistrates, local police authorities, and intelligence organisations, to facilitate the smooth execution of the re-examination. The meeting involved extensive discussions about examination preparedness, coordination mechanisms, security protocols, logistical arrangements, grievance redressal processes, and adherence to examination guidelines. Authorities from various States and Union Territories were advised to maintain close cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure the re-examination is conducted transparently and without disruption. A total of 222 participants joined the meeting, which was conducted in a hybrid format, including senior officials from a range of States and Union Territories, nodal officers from centrally funded institutions, as well as vice-chancellors and directors of higher educational institutions nationwide. They expressed their commitment to ensuring a seamless and hassle-free examination experience for all candidates.
