Trump Issues Warning Following Iran's Response to US Proposal
US President Donald Trump warns of potential strikes if Iran's uranium stockpiles are approached amidst a backdrop of renewed negotiations.

On 10 May 2026, Iran communicated its response to a US proposal aimed at deescalating ongoing military tensions through Pakistani intermediaries. While specific details of Iran's response remain undisclosed, Iranian media stated that the principal focus of the negotiations would be to conclude the regional conflict. Following this development, US President Donald Trump made a statement regarding the situation.

During a press interaction at the White House, Trump indicated that the United States would continue to exert pressure on the Iranian administration. He assessed the impact of recent military strikes on Iran, asserting that a significant number of strategic targets had been decimated. "The Iranians' A, B, and even C team leaders are gone," said Trump, adding, "They are defeated, but that does not mean we are done yet."

Trump claimed that the US military is well-positioned in the conflict, stating, "We could continue for another two weeks and hit every target. We have probably taken care of about 70% of the specific targets we wanted to hit. Even if we don't, it would take them years to rebuild."

The President characterised Iran's nuclear ambitions as a precarious scenario for global security. He harshly criticised former President Barack Obama's policies concerning Iran and cautioned about the broader risks associated with nuclear weapons proliferation. Describing the Iranian government as "crazy," Trump argued that a nuclear-capable Iran would present a serious and irreversible threat to not only Israel but the entire Middle East region.

Trump further disclosed that the United States is closely monitoring Iran's enriched uranium supplies and nuclear facilities. He stated, "The Space Force is watching that area. If anyone approaches that place, we will know and we will strike them. At some point, we will take Iran's enriched uranium as we wish."

According to Iranian sources, the essence of their response to the US proposal seeks to address the military strain currently gripping the region. Diplomatic insiders suggest that, for the time being, both parties are concentrating on "temporary formulas to stop the conflict" rather than pursuing a more comprehensive agreement.

The evolving dynamics of US-Iran relations are drawing attention in global energy markets, particularly given recent surges in oil prices due to the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. There are heightened concerns among experts that if diplomatic efforts falter, the risk of more extensive military conflicts could materialise in the region. Moreover, diplomatic channels through Pakistan are anticipated to intensify in the subsequent days, leaving it uncertain whether direct negotiations between the parties will take place in the near term.
