Trump Calls for Reimbursement from Nations for Strait of Hormuz Security
President Donald Trump stated on Monday that countries benefiting from United States security in the Strait of Hormuz should reimburse Washington for its protective efforts. He accused these nations of offering 'no help whatsoever' during the ongoing conflict with Iran.
In his remarks, Trump emphasised that oil continues to flow through the strategic waterway, arguing that the US has prioritised the security of global energy supplies over its own national interests for many years. 'The Countries of the World, which have been no help to us whatsoever, should, and will, reimburse the United States of America when this SCAM Conflagration is all over,' he asserted.
Trump further commented on inflation and rising oil prices in the US, attributing these increases to the administration of President Joe Biden. He wrote, 'I hope everyone realises that price increases throughout America were caused by Sleepy Joe Biden and the Biden Administration, not by “TRUMP.”' He noted that oil prices were higher under Biden's tenure compared to the current situation, highlighting the US's role in preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Additionally, Trump mentioned that Iran is looking to engage in negotiations. He stated, 'The failing nation of Iran wants to make a deal, quickly and badly. I will determine whether or not the USA will choose to engage - The concept of which we are open to.'
The comments come amidst a backdrop of heightened tensions in the region, particularly involving Iran and its nuclear aspirations. Trump's demands reflect a continued frustration over what he perceives as the lack of contribution from allied nations in securing an essential global trade route.
Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance spoke on a different note, assuring Americans that they should not fear advancements in artificial intelligence. Addressing reporters, he remarked on the administration's intentions to enact careful regulations as the midterm elections approach.
