Tovino Thomas Exits Jr NTR and Prashant Neel's Film Dragon
Tovino Thomas, a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema, has officially announced that he can no longer be part of the upcoming Telugu film, tentatively titled Dragon, directed by Prashant Neel and starring Jr NTR. The film's production began on August 9, 2022, with a ceremonial launch in Hyderabad.
While promoting his latest Malayalam project Pallichattambi in Hyderabad, Thomas addressed questions surrounding his involvement in Dragon. He stated, “It is really hard to allocate dates, so I am not doing it.” Highlighting the challenges inherent in Telugu cinema, Thomas elaborated on the difference in production schedules between the two industries. He explained, “I don’t do multiple films at once. In Malayalam, we finish a film in one schedule. But in Telugu, a single project takes almost a year. I can give 3 months, not an entire year.”
The film has been highly anticipated since its announcement on Jr NTR’s birthday in 2022. Though initially set for a theatrical release on June 25, 2026, the official channels related to the film have not provided updates after their initial announcement. A poster was released, featuring the release date in bold red against a monochrome background, generating buzz among fans.
The project marks another significant collaboration in Telugu cinema, with Prashant Neel being a well-regarded director known for his previous work. Jr NTR's participation in Dragon follows his recent commitments, including his role in the upcoming Hindi film War 2 alongside stars Hrithik Roshan and Ayan Mukherji.
As of now, no replacements for Tovino Thomas have been announced, and the film's team remains engaged with ongoing production efforts. The situation illustrates the complexities of scheduling and commitments in the film industry, especially in a landscape where actors often juggle multiple projects across different languages and styles.
As the film progresses, fans and industry observers are keen to see how the absence of Tovino Thomas will affect the narrative and casting of Dragon as it moves toward its long-awaited release date in 2026. The dialogue initiated by Thomas regarding production schedules could also garner attention as it reflects broader industry practices that are an integral part of cinematic production in India.
