Tewolde Gebremariam Appointed New CEO of Air India
Tewolde Gebremariam, former Ethiopian Airlines CEO, takes leadership of Air India as part of the airline's strategic revamp.

Tewolde Gebremariam has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Air India, succeeding the previous leadership as the airline seeks to revitalise its operations in the competitive aviation sector.

Gebremariam, who previously served as the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, brings a wealth of experience to his new role at Air India, having led Ethiopian Airlines through significant growth and expansion over the past decade. His tenure there saw the airline become one of the largest and most successful in Africa.

This leadership change is part of a broader strategy aimed at transforming Air India into a globally competitive airline. Industry analysts believe that Gebremariam's expertise in operational efficiencies and fleet management will be crucial for Air India, which has faced numerous challenges in recent years.

As one of the oldest airlines in the world, Air India has been undergoing a major overhaul since its acquisition by the Tata Group in early 2022. The new management has expressed its commitment to improving service quality, fleet modernisation, and expanding routes both domestically and internationally.

In a statement following his appointment, Gebremariam expressed enthusiasm for the challenges ahead, stating his intention to build on Air India’s legacy while ensuring it adapts to the modern aviation landscape.

With Gebremariam at the helm, stakeholders are hopeful that Air India will navigate towards a more promising future, enhancing its reputation and operational prowess in an increasingly competitive global market.
