Tata Sierra EV Launched at ₹18.79 Lakh: Features and Specifications
The Tata Sierra EV has officially been unveiled at an ex-showroom price of ₹18.79 lakh. It has already made headlines by successfully climbing the tallest Tal Moreeb sand dune prior to its launch. This electric vehicle (EV) shares its design with the conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Sierra while utilising the battery and electric motors from the Tata Harrier EV. The Sierra EV is seen as a significant contender in the compact electric SUV market, rivalling models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and Maruti eVitara. Bookings for the vehicle are now open, with deliveries expected to commence on July 15.
Available in five distinct variants, the Sierra EV is priced as follows:
- Pure: ₹18.79 lakh (63 kWh RWD)
- Pure S: ₹19.99 lakh (75 kWh RWD)
- Adventure: ₹20.99 lakh (63 kWh RWD), ₹22.19 lakh (75 kWh RWD)
- Empowered: ₹22.79 lakh (63 kWh RWD), ₹23.79 lakh (75 kWh RWD)
- Empowered A: ₹24.79 lakh (75 kWh AWD), ₹25.99 lakh (75 kWh AWD)
Each rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) variant is designed to meet diverse consumer needs. For an additional ₹49,000, buyers can acquire a 7.2 kW AC home charger.
The Sierra EV features a sleek front end characterised by a full-width LED light bar, contributing to its modern appearance. Notably, the vehicle replaces the gloss black grille found in the ICE model with a body-coloured panel to streamline its design. The side profile preserves the tall and boxy shape, with a nearly flat roofline and large windows that enhance the overall aesthetic, including the Sierra's trademark Alpine window styling. The vehicle sits on 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, which are identical to those of its ICE counterpart. Further design elements include flush-fitting door handles, black roof rails, and robust cladding around the wheel arches and lower sections of the doors.
In terms of dimensions, the Sierra EV measures:
- Length: 4340 mm
- Width: 1841 mm
- Height: 1715 mm
- Wheelbase: 2730 mm
- Ground Clearance: 205 mm
The vehicle's rear is accentuated by a slim full-width LED light bar that connects two LED tail lamps, with the Sierra EV branding situated below. The rear bumper is designed with a bold black lower section complemented by a silver skid plate.
The Sierra EV can accommodate 622 litres of boot space with all seats in place, along with additional storage in the frunk. The rear-wheel drive models offer 55 litres of frunk storage, while all-wheel drive variants provide 35 litres.
Interior-wise, the Sierra EV maintains a similar dashboard layout to the ICE model, with modern features. Noteworthy aspects include a four-spoke steering wheel, air conditioning vents, door armrests, and a centre console. The interior finishes include dual-tone upholstery, with adjustable headrests in all seats, along with a powered driver's seat equipped with memory functionality.
The vehicle sports a touch-sensitive climate control panel finished in gloss black, which may be less user-friendly. Both front and rear passengers benefit from a centre armrest, while rear seats have AC vents, USB Type-C charging ports, and manual sunshades for added comfort. Several advanced features from the Harrier EV like Summon Mode and auto-park assist are also integrated into the Sierra EV. Further enhancements include vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technologies, as well as an in-car payment system called 'DrivePay'.
In terms of entertainment, the Sierra EV includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a matching 12.3-inch display for the co-passenger, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a high-quality 12-speaker JBL sound system. Other conveniences comprise ventilated front seats that are power-adjustable, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display (HUD), a wireless phone charger, an NFC card key, an air purifier, and a gesture-controlled powered tailgate.
Safety features include an advanced driver assistance system, a 540-degree camera offering a transparent view beneath the bonnet, six airbags, electronic stability control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and all-wheel disc brakes, along with front and rear parking sensors.
The Sierra EV is equipped with two types of battery packs:
- 63 kWh (RWD)
- 75 kWh (RWD/AWD)
Specific performance metrics include:
- Claimed range: 565 km (63 kWh), 665 km (75 kWh RWD), and 624 km (75 kWh AWD)
- Power output: 238 PS (63 kWh), 209 PS (75 kWh RWD), and 209 PS from the rear motor and 140 PS from the front motor (75 kWh AWD)
- Torque: 315 Nm (63 kWh and 75 kWh RWD), 504 Nm (75 kWh AWD)
- Acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h: 5.8 seconds (75 kWh AWD)
- DC fast charging from 0 to 80 percent takes approximately 25-26 minutes.
The Tata Sierra EV offers a robust set of features, positioning itself as a strong alternative in the growing compact electric SUV segment. Its competitive pricing and advanced specifications make it a notable choice for potential buyers considering an electric vehicle in this category.
