Swara Bhasker Expresses Regret Over Ayodhya Verdict, Texts Celebrities
Swara Bhasker shares her feelings of shame after the Ayodhya verdict, reaching out to fellow actors to apologise on behalf of Hindu community.

Swara Bhasker, a prominent Indian actress, has openly discussed her discontent with the Supreme Court's 2019 Ayodhya verdict. The ruling, which awarded the disputed land for a Ram temple's construction, has provoked a wide range of responses throughout India. Bhasker expressed that she felt 'really ashamed' as a Hindu after hearing the decision, leading her to contact several of her Muslim friends, including notable actors Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan.

In an interview on The Midnight Hour podcast, Swara revealed that she was deeply affected by the verdict, stating, 'I was really upset. It felt very unfair.' She mentioned that she reached out to all the Muslims in her contact list to express her feelings of remorse. 'As a Hindu, I just wanted to let you know that I am really sorry, I am really ashamed, and I do not agree with this,' she recounted.

The verdict was delivered on November 9, 2019, and involved a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court. It decreed that the 2.77-acre site in Ayodhya, which has long been a point of contention, should be allotted for the construction of a Ram temple. Additionally, the court instructed that five acres of alternative land should be provided to the Sunni Central Waqf Board for a mosque, marking the closure of a protracted legal dispute.

Bhasker's comments have since ignited a mixed reaction on social media, with many users criticising her perspective on the landmark judgement. One user noted, 'Swara Bhasker was upset over the Ram Mandir verdict. Sometimes I feel bad for her; she spends day and night praising Bollywood, hoping to get work, but somehow the work never comes.' Another user commented on her sorry for the verdict, saying, 'We saw a court order. We saw Ram,' indicating a divergence in opinions about the ruling.

Alongside her discussion regarding the Ayodhya verdict, Bhasker shared a personal anecdote about her relationship with her husband, Fahad Ahmad. She mentioned that their mutual friend, Umar Khalid, played a role in their connection. Khalid, who was involved in protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, provided Fahad with Swara's contact information. Swara described Khalid as 'our cupid,' highlighting his instrumental role in their love story.

Umar Khalid had been arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2020 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for alleged involvement in the Northeast Delhi riots. Despite these challenges, Bhasker noted that she initially answered Fahad's call as she was engaging with individuals connected to the protests. In February 2023, she revealed that her mystery partner was indeed Fahad, and the couple later married under the Special Marriage Act and welcomed a daughter, Raabiyaa, in September 2023.

As for her acting career, Swara Bhasker has continued to be involved in various projects, including her recent participation as a contestant on the show 'Pati Patni Aur Panga' and her leading role in the film 'Jahaan Chaar Yaar.' Her outspoken views and personal experiences continue to spark conversation in the Indian entertainment industry and beyond.
