Suriya Discusses Contentment in Mumbai Home with Jyotika

After the Covid-19 pandemic, actors Suriya and Jyotika moved to Mumbai with their children, Diya and Dev. The couple aimed to provide their children a 'normal' lifestyle, allow Jyotika to be closer to her parents, and support her career in Bollywood. In a promotional discussion for his upcoming film, 'Vishwanath & Sons', Suriya reflected on their new living situation, favouring their 'cosy' 1,700 sq ft Mumbai residence over their expansive bungalow in Chennai.

Suriya noted the difference in his daily life after the relocation. He explained, 'In Mumbai, I can move around freely, while in Chennai, I am usually surrounded by fans.' During this promotional event with anchor Suma, Radhika Sarathkumar, his co-star and close friend, affirmed Suriya's contentment: 'He loves it. Jyotika tells me that Suriya enjoys being there. The first thing he does is check for his ironing and make coffee.'

Suriya elaborated on his affection for their new home, describing it as almost like a vacation. He stated, 'Mumbai is almost like a holiday for me. I work here, then I go on holiday there. Our house is smaller, so everything is accessible. It’s a nice, cosy house, which gives us comfort, warmth and a lot of love.' He mentioned the ease of calling out to his children, Diya and Dev, as they are just a step away from him.

Radhika Sarathkumar added her perspective on their family dynamic, stating, 'Jyotika is so happy, and that happiness overflows into her family life, and you can definitely feel it.' In response to this, Suriya pointed out that the move also served a practical purpose: 'She has not gone to Russia or Japan. She is only at her mother’s place. The main priority was, of course, for her parents, but her work is also progressing there simultaneously.'

Suriya and Jyotika married on 11 September 2006 in Chennai after a courtship that began when they met on the set of the 1999 film 'Poovellam Kettuppar'. They welcomed their daughter, Diya, in 2007, and their son, Dev, in 2010. Following their stay in an expansive multi-storey bungalow in Chennai, the couple's move to Mumbai occurred post-pandemic. Notably, the Times of India reported in 2023 that they had purchased a larger 9,000 sq ft bungalow in Mumbai worth ₹70 crore (approximately £7 million). However, Suriya’s comments suggest they are currently enjoying a more modest living space.

'Vishwanath & Sons', directed by Venky Atluri, features Suriya alongside Mamitha Baiju and Radhika Sarathkumar, and is set for theatrical release on 14 August.
