Sunny Deol Reflects on Loss at Border 2 Song Launch in Jaisalmer
Sunny Deol shares emotional memories at the Border 2 song launch, reflecting on his father's legacy and his current state after Dharmendra's passing.

Indian actor Sunny Deol recently attended the launch of the song 'Ghar Kab Aaoge' from his forthcoming film Border 2 in Jaisalmer. The event was a celebration of the film's cast and crew, yet it also served as an opportunity for Deol to share his poignant reflections on his late father, Dharmendra, and the legacy of Indian war cinema.

During his address at the event, Sunny Deol expressed his deep emotional connection to the original film Border, which was released in 1997. He revealed that his father’s earlier work, the 1964 film Haqeeqat, had a significant influence on his decision to pursue a career in acting. Haqeeqat, which depicted the 1962 Sino-Indian War, follows a small group of Indian soldiers facing overwhelming odds in Ladakh. The film is regarded as a classic in Indian cinema, with Dharmendra playing the lead role.

Sunny Deol remarked, “Kaise hain aap log? Mein aapke parivaar ka hissa hi hoon, jab se maine Border ki hain. Maine Border ki thi kyuki maine jab apni papa ki film Haqeeqat dekhi thi, woh mujhe bohot pyaari lagi thi. Tab main bohot chhota tha. Jab main actor bana tab maine taay kiya ki main bhi papa jaise ek film karunga.” This translates to, “How are you all? I have been a part of your family since I did Border. I chose to do Border because when I watched my father’s film Haqeeqat, I loved it deeply. I was very small then. When I became an actor, I decided that I wanted to make a film like my father's.”

The emotional weight of the occasion was further underscored by Deol's candid admission about his current state of mind. He stated, “Main zyada kuch nahi bol paaunga, mera dimaag hila hua hain,” meaning, “I won’t be able to say much, I am a little shaken.” His comments were in reference to the recent passing of his father, Dharmendra, who died on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89. The veteran actor was last seen in the film Ikkis, released on January 1, 2026.

Border 2, the sequel to the original film, is directed by Anurag Singh and boasts an ensemble cast featuring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film is produced by T-Series and JP Dutta’s JP Films and is scheduled for release in theatres on January 23, 2026. The sequel aims to deliver intense war sequences and high drama, serving as a tribute to bravery and patriotism in the face of adversity.

As anticipation builds for Border 2, Sunny Deol's heartfelt reflections remind audiences of the enduring legacy of his father and the significant impact of Indian war films over the decades.
