Sri Lanka XI Scores 363 on Day 1 of Warm-Up Match Against India

Sri Lanka Cricket XI put on an impressive batting display, reaching a total of 363 runs for the loss of eight wickets on the first day of a warm-up match against India, held on Friday at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo. The local side's young batters effectively challenged the Indian bowlers, establishing a strong foundation for the innings.

Openers Nishan Madushka and Ravindu Rasantha made significant contributions, both scoring half-centuries. They combined for an opening partnership of 110 runs within 20.4 overs. Madushka scored 66 runs off 65 deliveries, hitting 11 boundaries and a six before being run out in the 21st over. Rasantha added 71 runs to the total, including a solid partnership of 61 runs with Pasindu Sooriyabandra, who made 35 runs as well.

The Indian bowling attack saw three spinners claiming two wickets each; Ravindra Jadeja finished with figures of 2 for 64, Kuldeep Yadav took 2 for 76, and Manav Suthar delivered a notable performance with 2 for 33. Pacer Gurnoor Brar took one wicket for 49 runs, while Saransh Jain, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna went wicketless.

The Sri Lankan innings continued to unfold when captain Sonal Dinusha contributed a vital knock of 52 runs while batting at number eight. He formed a pivotal partnership of 63 runs for the ninth wicket with Ramesh Mendis, who scored 32 runs before being dismissed by Jadeja. Dinusha, however, was eventually trapped leg before wicket by Suthar later in the day.

Due to the match’s non-first-class status, both teams are scheduled to bat 90 overs each over the first two days, meaning India’s batters are set to take the field on Day 2, Saturday. K L Rahul took over the captaincy for the match after regular skipper Shubman Gill was ruled out due to a finger injury sustained during practice on Thursday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reported on social media platform X that Gill will not take the field as a precautionary measure and is under monitoring.

Sri Lanka Cricket XI won the toss and opted to bat first against the Indian side. This warm-up match serves as a lead-up to India's two-Test series in Sri Lanka, with the first Test scheduled to commence in Galle on August 15 and the second Test set for Colombo beginning August 23.
