Spider-Man: Brand New Day Receives Modifications for India Release

The eagerly awaited film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, featuring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for release in India. The film received a UA 13+ certification, but underwent specific edits prior to its debut.

An eight-second kissing scene has been removed, and three instances of what the board deemed 'obscene' language have been muted. These alterations come as part of the certification process and are the only changes made to the film after its review by the board.

Speculation surrounding the film's runtime and content has persisted in recent weeks. Initially, Indian ticketing platforms indicated a runtime of two hours and 25 minutes, while international listings showed a longer duration of two hours and 30 minutes. This discrepancy led to reports suggesting that as much as five minutes of footage had been cut for the Indian audience.

However, Sony Pictures Entertainment India clarified that the film had not yet been submitted to the CBFC at the time of those reports, describing them as inaccurate. With the certification now completed, the altered version boasts a runtime of approximately two hours and 24 minutes.

The UA 13+ certificate permits public exhibition of the film but advises parental guidance for children under 13. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the fourth outing for Tom Holland in the titular role. The film continues the storyline from Spider-Man: No Way Home, which left audiences with Peter Parker's identity concealed from the world by a spell cast by Doctor Strange.

Alongside Holland and Zendaya, who returns as MJ, the cast includes Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and notable appearances by actors such as Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, known for his role as Frank Castle, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.

Maintaining accessibility for a diverse audience, the film will be released in various languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit Indian cinemas on 30 July, a day ahead of its opening in the United States.
