Shubman Gill Likely to Miss Fourth T20I Against South Africa
Indian cricketer Shubman Gill is expected to miss the fourth T20I against South Africa due to a toe injury sustained during training.

In a significant setback for the Indian cricket team, T20 International vice-captain Shubman Gill is anticipated to sit out the fourth T20I match against South Africa due to a toe injury. Reports indicate that the right-handed batsman suffered the injury during a training session in Lucknow and has been advised to rest by the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

At this time, it remains uncertain whether Gill will also be unavailable for the final match of the series scheduled in Ahmedabad. However, sources suggest that the likelihood of his participation is slim. Further evaluations and medical scans are expected to provide clarity on the duration of his recovery and potential return to play.

Gill was noticeably absent from the team's pre-match activities in Lucknow, raising concerns about his condition. A source within the team commented, "Yes, he injured his toe while batting. It doesn't look bad right now, but further assessment and scans will reveal a clear picture. One also has to be mindful of the weather in the northern part of the country, which extends recovery time from niggles. A call on his participation for the Ahmedabad game will be taken soon."

The Indian team currently leads the series against South Africa 2-1 and is keen to secure an unassailable advantage in the upcoming match. The hosts are already coping with the absence of all-rounder Axar Patel, who has been ruled out due to illness. He has been replaced in the squad by Shahbaz Ahmed. In addition, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah missed the previous match in Dharamsala for personal reasons but has rejoined the team for the fourth T20I.

With Gill sidelined, wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson may have a greater opportunity to perform at the top of the batting order, potentially filling the void left by Gill's absence. The match is set to be a crucial encounter as India strives to maintain its lead in the series against the South African side.
